How to Find and Use Public Services
This module reviews the types of funding a person with a brain injury disability may have, and the wide array of public services that could be accessed to support a person with goals of living in the community. The module stresses the importance of ongoing care management and an active relationship with a medical rehabilitation doctor to advocate for the person with a brain injury. People of all ages are transferred to nursing facilities from hospitals when brain injury is severe enough to require a longer stay for medical and rehabilitative recovery. But when a person’s health has stabilized, regardless of the level of ongoing disability, people have goals for return to home/community.
